Born in 1972 in Gardanne, Jean Baptiste Ganne lives and works in Marseille. He was first (un)trained at the National School of Photography in Arles and then at the Villa Arson in Nice. He experiments with various forms of expression and does not hesitate to combine genres: writing, readings-performances, sound installations, photography and video.
His activity as an artist revolves around “the representation of politics and the politics of representation” as, for example, in Capital Illustrated (photographic illustration of Marx’s book). It is a question of questioning more precisely the dialectic between the image and the language. As a multidisciplinary artist, he also strives to promote encounters between artists and disciplines, as in La Station in Nice, an artists’ collective of which he is one of the leaders, particularly since the reopening of the Nice slaughterhouses in 2009. In residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in 2003 and 2004, he was a resident at the Villa Medici from 2006 to 2007.
